ONCE UPON A COSTUME
by Mia Bennet--@must_be_mia1 First in a series. Eduardo Castro, the magnificent costume designer for Once Upon a Time knows how to bring the characters we love to life with a little spunk in them. Belle, portrayed by the lovely Emilie De Ravin, has several outfits that clearly match her disposition. For starters, she is first seen in her yellow dress in Season 1's "Skin Deep" as she bravely decides to live with Rumplestiltskin forever in order to save her family and kingdom. This dress has a soft overlook, but is embroidered with gold, which signifies "triumphant". This is initially what Belle blossoms into after spending time in the Dark Castle.

The Evolution Of Character Underdevelopment On Once Upon A Time by Guest Writer Sara West (@Montreat11) Being “out of character” is a phrase that is used in the arts when a character does something no one would have expected. The phrase is defined as “not in keeping with someone's usual pattern of behavior”. For example, if a vegetarian character were to suddenly reach for a burger without reason or explanation, that would be out of character. Or if a character who has always professed to hate dogs and love cats suddenly adopted a dog and gave away their other furry friends, that would be out of character. With proper development, it is difficult for writers or authors to write a character that is “out of character”. Why? Because they created the character. And chances are that they did not create the character to be a straight line of non-existent development. In the creation of the character room is left to grow, for opinions to form, change, and disappear completely. Properly developed characters should have a flow to them, they should be different by the end of the story and with each new episode we should be able to see how they have grown, not necessarily changed, over the course of the episode. This is what makes characters so relatable. They are human. They are supposed to change just like we change. Can you honestly say that you are the exact same person you were five years ago or when you were in college? No, because you have grown. You have developed. And ten years from now you will continue to be different because you are still developing and will always develop. You don’t ever stop. Your life, your experiences, all of this contributes to your development as a person and this is exactly what contributes to the development of characters as well. There is a problem with characters on Once Upon a Time. With each passing episode the phrase “that was out of character!” seems to get thrown around with growing anger. Though the characters on each episode may vary, this complaint is constant. So, what has happened with Once Upon a Time? Why are these characters that once used to be so wonderfully put together and “in character” suddenly accused of being “out of character”?
The answer? They are not out of character, they’ve simply become underdeveloped. Rumplestiltskin’s Journey and Transformation in Season Four By Teresa Martin - @Teresa__Martin Rumplestiltskin went through a major transformation in Season Four. He went from the hero who saved Storybrooke into full-on villain and ended in stasis with a clear heart and all of the Dark Curse sucked from him. What is to come remains to be seen, but I believe hints of his journey were given throughout the season.
His shift, swiftly, and largely off-screen, was so abrasive in 4a that there was a lot of speculation that he might be under the Snow Queen’s Shattered Sight Curse. He was too confident, too indulgent in the worst aspects of what his character could achieve. It was so drastic that he even began “confiding” in Hook, who, strangely, took on the role of Belle in a way, as the exhorter, the preacher. And Rumple met solid walls until he hit rock bottom, not only after Belle banished him, but even after as it appeared he really couldn’t see the fallacy of his plans.. I speculated that he, being the master manipulator, was actually playing everyone like violins. As it turns out, I was wrong. It really was a simple as what we were seeing. That said, I believe that looking backwards from “Operation Mongoose Parts One and Two” can shed some light on his recent arc. I would like to begin with the last few minutes of the Season Four Finale: Emma becoming the Dark One. Rumplestiltskin is under The Dark Curse Emma understood The Dark Curse and exactly what was going to happen when she took it upon herself. She turned to her parents and told them that they would have to save her. Hook too. Her declaration of love seemed to me not only just a romantic admission, it was also a plea. Emma loves him, and if he loves her, he will also have to play a role in saving her. She understood what Belle used to about being The Dark One: saving will be beyond her. Once she becomes Dark, there will be no hope for her. It is a curse. Curses take away free-will, and worse, are seductive. Like people taking their first shot of heroin, it is impossible without outside intervention to be cured. Regina can actively work towards Emma's rescue. And lastly, perhaps most significantly, Henry as The Heart of the Truest Believer and Author logically could be front and center. Love, all love—in all its forms: parents for their children, friendship and romantic is supernatural and hence the cure for darkness. But what does this say about Rumplestiltskin? Exactly the same thing it says about Emma. He was under a curse for hundreds of years. So all of his actions since he was tricked by Zoso into killing him have been from a man to a great degree without free-will, without selflessness, and who is a complete junkie. Which brings me to my next point: By Amy Hood - @Amylia403 It is that time again, Oncers. The abyss, the hour of our discontent, that desperate time that inevitably comes each year for us…..Hiatus time. Each hiatus I take a lighthearted look back at the season to find the gems of wisdom, some serious, some completely goofy, that were imparted to us. Season Four has come to a close and I am ready to share with all of you, these pearls of ONCEY wisdom. SISTERS ARE TROUBLE! Fine, not always, but… Anna and Elsa were very smooshy and loving. But let us not forget, Elsa almost froze Emma to death and created a giant, Marshmallow ice monster. She got herself stuck in an urn, and who put her there? Yup, Anna. Ok, Anna was under the Spell of Shattered Sight, but still, couldn’t she just have stolen Elsa’s favorite sweater or borrowed her lipstick without asking? Auntie Ingrid McSnowQueen had a lot to do with that, but all she wanted was her family who loved her! I mean, sniff sniff, we all cried when Ingrid came to that realization and poofed away into the great beyond. All of us right... right? Not just me? (Cricket chirps…) And the ultimate in pesky, happily ever after ruining sister snow jobs, Zelena came back! Regina just can’t catch a break with this woman! Faking death, pretending to be the sweet as sugar Marion, and THEN…she went and got knocked up by Robin! I don’t condone family violence, but (after the baby is born of course) Regina and Zelena need to just have a good old fashioned sister knock down drag out slap fight. I certainly want to see that, and I love them both! Don’t get me wrong, I am an Evil Regal forever, but I love seeing Regina and Zelena go toe to toe. They are both so smart and devious in their own way. What a fabulous paring. Maybe they can also hash out just whose color black really is, and if Storybrooke is in fact, the Wicked West. Once Upon a Time a rich family falls on hard times. Of all the children, only Belle stands out as a character of dignity. Noble though she is, she resolves to make the best of her situation and is not too proud to reduce herself to manual labor, seeking out the needy in her new “little town.” Belle is also a great scholar whose great learning and love of books keeps her from melancholy. When she finds herself in a situation wherein she becomes enslaved to a Beast, she is called by her sisters a “victim of beauty.” In the service of the Beast she is constantly in danger of succumbing to a deeper melancholy and continues to look within and her books to survive. But she has another consolation. When she sleeps she is visited by a comely Prince, who loves her madly, and she falls in love with him as they converse. He also serves as her conscience, advising her of the truth in her heart. In Belle’s waking hours, she visits with the Beast nightly and he always asks her to marry him, something from which she shrinks. Yet she pities the Beast in his misery. Finally, so missing her old life, the Beast releases her to visit her home. She pledges to him that she will return. But she doesn’t. Surrounded by a comforting, non-complex environment, she finds solace. This leads her to break her vow and stay with those who make her happy. Make her smile. Yet this proves to be shallow as she finds that she is losing herself. The Prince still comes to her in dreams, but he is in great pain since he is dying. His heart is shattered and he is all alone in his misery. The Prince shows her that it was the breaking of her vow that caused this. Finally, Belle can take it no longer. She goes back to the Beast and finds the dying Prince as she saw him in her dreams, yet it is not the man she knows, but the Beast. At this moment she realizes that her Prince was the Beast all along and when she broke with him she broke with her True Love. In soul-destroying tears she begs him to live. To come back to her. She declares her love. At that the Beast’s curse breaks. They are married and live “Happily Ever After.” This is “Beauty and the Beast.” Or as I like to call it, Season Four Rumbelle. There's Been A Change In Her: Is Belle Now Only Skin Deep?
by Teresa Martin (@Teresa__Martin) Yes, there has been a change in Belle. A change indeed, a “kind of moving on” but certainly not the one fans saw coming, if only for the assurance given during the hiatus that Rumbelle wasn’t over. The shock that fans received was well-earned when they saw that Belle is now only true to the “sharing possessions” part of her wedding vows and joyfully tossing out the “fidelity” part. It was a double hit since said infidelity is happening in the very place that houses all her husband’s riches. Yikes! Burn! Well, arguably Rumple had it coming. But did Belle have this plot coming? The writers confirmed that she did. In an apparent contrast with previous statements, an interview was published after the bombshell. Adam and Eddy defended Belle and Will’s affair because it is Belle “strong… moving on...” and “she hasn’t really lived.” Wow! Just wow! Did I miss something over the past three years? I wasn’t supposed to like Belle? She really was not living? And then it hit me. The answer is “yes.” I shouldn’t have liked her. At least not since “Broken.” I was as blind to her flaws as she recently was to Rumplestiltskin’s. How did I miss what was omitted in all those articles telling us about Rumbelle coming up? For it’s not Rumbelle that’s over. It is Belle as we know her. What follows is a look at Belle since her escape from the asylum to her “Unforgiven” revelation (an episode title full of more meanings than I can enumerate). Please do not misunderstand. It is not my intention to Belle- bash. Quite the contrary. I am putting her on the couch—no pun intended—to analyze how she got to this point from what the show has so far shown us. I am aware that many have interpreted the latest development differently, with very solid points. This is me throwing my hat into the ring. Because deep down, I like Belle. If I didn’t, I would ignore her on the show and use her scenes as an opportunity to leave the television so I can refill my gin and tonic. I just don’t like her right now. The same way I didn’t like Rumple when he backslid in 4a. For I see clearly that she has “moved on”, she’s gone “stronger” and found “something to smile about”. But is she moving on, stronger and smiling about the right things? I “moved on” once when heart-broken . . . even changed from something weaker to stronger: a thimble-full of sherry to tequila shots. And it sure made me smile! Until the next morning when the effects proved I had been ingesting poison. This is a strange moment for me, likely the first time, when I simply part ways with Adam and Eddy on a plot. I clash with their interpretation of what makes a woman live, what makes her strong. We are all products of our life experiences, and my personal experiences are informing my contrary opinion. That said, I cannot, nor will I, judge their right to interpret their definition of “living” as applied to Belle. It is theirs, their story, and likely as personal. By Sara West (@Montreat11)
The news came from the Once Upon a Time set just before Christmas. Slowly, details began to emerge. There was a kiss. It involved my favorite character from this show: Belle! And Robert Carlyle was there! At first it seemed like the reconciliation was on the way, but reports of who kissed who came flooding in, and then there were months of speculation as we waited for the hiatus to end to learn if it was really true. Finally the dreaded confirmation came on the Sunday “Unforgiven” aired. It was true. It wasn’t just any kiss; it wasn’t the reunion of two beloved characters as I’d hoped. In fact it was quite the opposite. Belle had not been seen kissing Rumpelstiltskin, but rather Will Scarlet while Rumpelstiltskin watched on. Months ago when this news surfaced, of course I was upset, every die-hard Rumbeller was, but as the days began to pass and I began considering what it was that would bring two characters like Belle and Will Scarlet together, I came to a surprising conclusion: this was a good thing. I know this is not a popular opinion in the Rumbelle fandom at the moment and this proclamation has the potential to make me a bit of a pariah, but I promise you I’m not crazy. Just hear me out and allow me to explain why this will be good for we Rumbellers in the end. Belle and Will have a lot in common. If you watched Once Upon a Time in Wonderland you know that. For those of you that didn’t, allow me to give you the cliff notes version. There’s Been A Change In Them The Marriage of The Beauty and the Beast By Teresa Martin (@Teresa__Martin) Fans of Belle and Rumplestiltskin were thrown into an understandable state of “feels” after the Winter Finale. It began with a happy Belle packing for a proper honeymoon in New York City, and ended with her using the Dark One’s Dagger to banish her husband from Storybrooke. This was no small development. Once’s version of “Beauty and the Beast” arguably produced the most stunning episode of the entire series: “Skin Deep.” For me, its airing in February 2012 was the moment I became a fan of the show and started to truly care for the characters. A large part of this was due to the Tour de Force performance by Robert Carlyle. He went through the gamut of emotions, and we saw that Rumplestiltskin could not only hate with great passion, but love as well. Overlooked sometimes is Emilie de Ravin’s magnificent portrayal of Belle. She was Belle incarnate, and for the first time we saw someone stand up to Rumplestiltskin, call him out on his weaknesses, and live to tell about it. Moreover, even though Rumple sent her away, it was really Belle who left, with her head held high, an action she repeated in the Winter Finale. Rumbelle was born in “Skin Deep” and I am not using this word as a “ship.”
Concerning this, I believe Robert Carlyle was dead-on in an October interview: Belle and him are two entirely separate things. It's wrong. You cannot combine these two characters together and think they're the same thing. There’s load of stuff out there talking about “Rumbelle.” It doesn't exist. He is absolutely a character in his own right, as is she.* Rumbelle in the context quoted indeed does not exist. I have always seen “Rumbelle” as the fairy tale and template in which these characters live. Rumbelle is “Beauty and the Beast,” a masterful telling of the ”Tale as Old as Time” in a more adult manner than ever seen before. It is marriage, but it is also hate, misery, sacrifice, and pain. In short, it is True Love. By Zach Van Norman
During the season three finale on Once Upon A Time, we were treated to the surprise reveal that Queen Elsa of Arendelle had arrived in Storybrooke. As the summer progressed we were treated to casting news for not only Elsa, but other Frozen favorites like Anna, Kristoff, Hans, and even Sven the reindeer. (Olaf, sadly, will not be appearing.) The popularity of Frozen created a sense of tunnel vision among the fans, even myself, with little question of where the storyline would go after this new story wrapped up. But with the recent announcement that Kristin Bauer van Straten is returning to Once for what is being termed a “major arc,” the second half of the season has suddenly become clear. Despite the chilly beginning, season four's plot will quickly heat up as it progresses. Here are my predictions for what will happen this year on Once Upon A Time: 1. Elsa and Emma Elsa’s Frozen struggle is to understand that love is the key to controlling her magic, which seems to be a parallel to Emma’s journey in letting things go and using her magic, and a reason why the two characters will interact. Jennifer Morrison confirmed as much in my interview with her at San Diego Comic-Con 2014, stating that “Emma finally has someone who understands her that isn’t family. This is her first friend.” This is also Emma’s first chance at learning magic and understanding herself from someone on the same path. Look for Elsa to play a pivotal role in Emma’s journey of self-discovery, both magical and not. By Tori, @Team_RobinHood
Everything was going so beautifully in the finale, wasn’t it? Regina and Robin were together, having a romantic lunch by the fire and she had her heart back, feeling more love than ever before. Then there was bonding with Roland over ice cream at the very end. This for me was the most perfect scene Outlaw Queen has ever had. It was exactly what we all hoped and dreamed to see happen for Regina, for her to finally be happy. And then it all went up in smoke in a matter of thirty seconds. We knew it was coming, as soon as Emma saw Marian you knew she wouldn’t let her die and Regina’s world was going to shatter all over again. And shatter it did. In the process of Robin embracing his long dead wife, our hearts broke right along with Regina’s. No one can blame Robin for running to Marian. She was, and is, his wife and the mother of his child, whom he loved, still loves, and dead or alive, will always love. I also can’t deny that it warmed my aching heart a wee bit to see Roland with his mommy. But does this mean that Outlaw Queen is over after it’s barely begun? Is this all the happiness Regina will know with her soul mate? Was Tinkerbell and her pixie dust wrong in saying that Robin Hood and Regina Mills were destined to be together? I don’t believe so. Because if this was the end of them, then what was the whole point of it all? Simply to show that people who get second chances in life and love are doomed to fail? Of course not! Once Upon A Time has always been about the redemption of its characters and the lesson that no matter how lost you are, or how alone, there is always the hope of finding your happy ending. There isn’t a single couple on OUAT that hasn’t had one trial after another in order to be together. Outlaw Queen is no exception. In a way, Regina and Robin’s romance was almost too easy. No one ever tried to stop them from being together, no villains made it their lives’ mission to pull them apart at all costs. They slowly got to know one another from a distance during the lost year, bickering, as we saw, like a pair of children. Both attracted to each other at the time, no doubt about it, but too busy to take the time and see it. Regina was broken and lost after losing Henry, dealing with a jealous sister who was quite literally out for blood, while Robin was focused on keeping his son safe as well as helping to protect the kingdom. It took them being cursed to finally get to really know each other on a deep, personal level. The real character transformation came from Regina. After decades of closing her heart off to love, seeking revenge for the love of her life that was so cruelly taken from her, she started to see how good a life she really did have now. She saw the possibility of being able to share that life with someone. While we know she has always loved Henry with every fiber of her being, loving a child and opening yourself up to falling in love are two very different things. Yet once she did, she never regretted it for a second. I swear my heart melted into goo at seeing her so happy and full of love, for not only did she get her son back by the end of Season Three, but she also had her soul mate by her side. As for Robin, he truly did fall in love with the Evil Queen. He saw past her hard outer shell from the moment she saved Roland from the flying monkey and discerned the broken and lost woman within . . . she whom he hardly knew by more than reputation alone. From the beginning he wanted her to have a second chance. Lots of people wouldn’t have shed any tears at Regina putting herself into a sleeping curse to ward off the pain she was feeling. Robin, however, tried, nearly in vain, to show her there could be more to life. He, who knew the loss of his wife, lived with that guilt every day, and then who could imagine the horror at losing your child? Long before he had any romantic feelings for Regina, Robin could see someone not too different from him, who should not be given up on. Lots of Outlaw Queen was reading between the lines. We know Regina so well, one look tells us more than most conversations ever could. The same can be said for Robin as we slowly got to know him. The looks, gestures, daring flirting, and smiles told us all we needed to know: Robin Hood was quickly falling for the Evil Queen. With Marian back from the dead, does it mean all the love that has been built up between Regina and Robin is suddenly gone? No, because love doesn’t work like that. You don’t choose who you love or when. Feelings cannot be turned off just because Marian is now back in Robin and Roland’s lives. Most people have been focusing on Regina and her heartbreak, but let’s not forget about what Robin is going to going through. He’s a mixed bag of emotions right now, if ever there was one, and likely hardly knows which way is up at the moment. Processing all those feeling is going to take some time. Robin will want to remain loyal to Marian and do the honorable thing. Be the family they used to be. But will he be able to? That’s the big question now, isn’t it? Can he so easily forget Regina? Will Regina not fight for what she loves, for what she knows in her heart is meant to be? Sadly, we will have to wait a long four months before we have any of these answers. Even then, I see this as being a slow boil story arc. Regina will be hurt and bitter, out for Emma’s head on a silver platter. Robin will be lost and confused, in a situation with which he never dreamed he’d be faced. And that, as a certain pirate has said, is when the fun begins. Oh, it’s going to be full of angst and heartache, ups and down, ice queens and who knows what else! We’ll be wanting to reach through our screens and smack Marian upside the head so hard it sends her right back to when and where she came from. But that’s what makes a great romance so great. Not so much the ending, when the two lovers are finally together and happy, but the road that leads them there. So don’t give up on Robin and Regina. Never give up on them. It is always the darkest before the dawn. Be strong, and remember: keep the Outlaw Queen Faith! By Amy Hood - @Amylia403 Hard to believe, but we have already come to the end of the third season of Once Upon a Time. Seems like just a few weeks ago we were suffering through the hiatus and now, here we are again! Like in previous years, we have created a tongue-in-cheek list of a few things we have learned from Season Three. From Storybrooke to Neverland to the Enchanted Forest we’ve traveled quite a lot this season, so let’s look back on what we’ve learned: REGINA IS HOT -- Okay, this one is obvious, but seriously…the woman had tentacles and stark white hair in an episode this season and STILL she was smoking hot. Potato sack, couture gown, pants suit, eight legs…..makes no difference. You just can’t ugly up Regina. Momma Regal is divine. SOMETIMES A PIRATE CAN BE A PRINCE -- So Hook didn’t literally become a prince, but he did sacrifice to get the girl. He gave up the thing that meant the most to him, the Jolly Roger, and despite multiple rejections, kept by Emma’s side. What started as a comic relief relationship grew over the course of the season and in the end he won her heart. Hook loved Neal, and felt his loss with Emma. His death became a broken piece of both of their hearts that brought them together. And the man taught her how to dance at a fairytale ball, and it was H-O-T. By Amy Hood - @Amylia403
Many of you reading this are like me. You grew up in a not so perfect home and, to put it nicely, in very difficult circumstances. Some of you reading this may still be in those places and wondering, as I often did as a child, if there was more; if there was “different.” Wondering where was the end of the clouds and the beginning of the rainbows? For many of us, myself included, THIS is where obsession with fairytales, fantasy and adventure began. When we feel powerless and trapped, oftentimes imagination can be the savior of both sanity and soul. When life was at its lowest, it was then that my mind soared and escaped into stories that were so beautiful, so magnificent that they were able to transport me out of a place of darkness and up into the tallest castles. Even if it was only for a bit of time, it gave to me the one thing I needed to survive… Hope. A very wise person once said that we should all be kind to others, for we do not know what battles they are fighting. Bright and shiny on the outside is often struggling and tarnished on the inside. Even the happiest people may fight a battle every day. Yours may have been or may be different than mine, but if you are fighting, struggling, putting on a brave face, then, like me, you may have escaped into stories. Once Upon a Time struck a chord with me immediately when I began to watch it. Yes, it was a fantastical show filled with fairytales, but more than that, it reminded me of how much stories had always meant to me. Often I would imagine that a prince would slay a vicious, fire breathing dragon, saving me from the life I was living. I would leap from the bed, covered in imaginary pixie dust and fly far away to a place that was anywhere besides where I was. The power of stories gave us hope. They gave us strength in a time when we felt powerless. We had moments of beauty in darkness. Outside the walls of our house, my sister and I would run, not as ourselves, but as Snow White through an imaginary dark forest. We climbed trees that seemed one thousand feet tall, that may have only been twenty-foot tall saplings, but not in those moments. We flew to the Death Star, saved the day and found a place inside of us to hold bravery, even when we were not allowed to be brave. We took turns being princesses and villains. Each holding our own kind of bravery and power. Even in being defeated as Maleficent or the Evil Queen, I could still be happy to see my sister strong, and she could feel the same for me. Many difficult years passed, but we kept those moments close. Eventually my sister was sent away to live with her grandparents. We didn’t see much of each other after that. Years passed, and like many others, distance pulls you in many directions. Two years ago I had a chance to vacation with her after many years had gone by. I don’t recall much else, other than the fact that we talked and talked for hours. We remembered things neither of us had thought about for years, and for a moment it seemed like we could scatter the pixie dust and jump from the bed into the air. One thing that we both remembered was the power of the books, the stories and the fantasy tales we had escaped into. We both feel like those worlds were a very real place to us where we would often hide. A few months ago I found a toy on eBay that I had as a child. It is a simple preschool wind up house in which Snow White rocks back and forth while playing music as the seven dwarfs look on. A ridiculous toy for any adult to want, but I had to have it. In my hands, I laughed when it arrived. I wound it up and recalled how my sister and I had wished we were tiny enough to crawl inside and live there when we were quite little. In many ways and for many people, stories are more than stories. Stories are about hope, about joy, about the belief that one day things will be better. Many people don’t get that chance; they give up when it seems unbearable. But I can tell you, as would my sister if she were here, that the darkness doesn’t last. It is huge and overwhelming at times, but the light of hope that seems so far out does eventually come. By OUAF Staff Writer Lori Fitzgerald - @MedievalLit
A TV show changed my life. That must sound so weird, so shallow, to people who don't understand. But if you are a Oncer, you more than understand. You feel it too, deep within you. That profound effect that usually only people or life events (or in my case, as an English Major, books) can have in altering your perception of yourself and/or the universe. It causes you to act differently, to take the road less travelled. Yeah, a TV show did that. Before October 2011 I would have scoffed at the idea of a TV show having that much impact on me. I was never a big TV watcher. Oh, over the years I had my shows that I followed, like Buffy and X-files, but I was never as invested in them as I was in my favorite book series, never as touched emotionally or intellectually by them as I was by my well-worn Wuthering Heights, Le Morte Darthur, or my collections of T.S. Eliot or the Bard himself. But the minute the opening scene of Once Upon a Time's pilot unfolded before my eyes, I was enthralled. By Amy Hood - @Amylia403 It’s that time of year again. The time when all Oncers fall into that dark abyss that follows the season finale. A break between seasons where Rumbellers, SwanQueens and other shippers find common ground in their hunt for tidbits and scraps of info on our favorite characters. Now is a perfect time to take a look back at the roller coaster of season 2, and highlight what we discovered this year. Holidays Will Rock So, Henry is the son of Emma, and Grandchild of Snow and Charming. He is also the adopted son of Regina and her step-great-grandson. Baelfire is Henry’s father, making Rumple Henry’s grandfather. All of this makes Rumple, Regina, and the Charmings IN-LAWS! Merry Christmas folks. Hopefully someone will spike the punch and no one gets turned into a snail before the presents get opened. PS- if someone gets a box from Cora or Regina and its thumping…..I wouldn’t open it. It's A Small World After All! A Chinese warrior named Mulan is BFFs with Prince Philip and Aurora. Some suggest maybe a little bit more than a BFFs relationship going on there. ;) Who knows, if so, good for them! We also learned that Hook knows not only his “Crocodile” Rumple, but has a history with Bae. Bae has had a run in with the Darling family. Hook also has a past with Regina and her mother Cora, who was the Queen of Hearts. And in the biggest chance of fate, Rumple’s son Bae is Emma’s ex and Henry’s father. It’s one big high school reunion this season on Once. Remember that guy from gym class? It’s Rumplestiltskin! The prom Queen you hated? Cora! Most likely to end up a barfly? Belle! Magic Can Be Destroyed By A Helluh Cool Taser! We saw this year the destruction of both “The Dragon” and August by Tamara’s super amazing, one of a kind, call now and we’ll add this awesome cutting board, Taser. Something is going on with this taser. It’s clearly packed with some kind of super magic busting science stuff. Or perhaps it’s loaded up with pixie dust, or crushed magic wands. Either way, Tamara definitely got her money’s worth out of that infomercial purchase! Sweet Kids Can Turn Into Punk Ass Adults! Oh, Greg/Owen. You were a cute, cherub faced little guy back in 1983. We loved you with your cute Star Wars references and the way you dug camping. Fast forward 28 years. We hate you, Greg. We hate you with the fire of a thousand suns. Sure, Regina killed your dad. We get that you’re upset, it’s a real bummer. But still, you and your taser wielding wench are just asking for a smack down! Of course, having said that, we can’t wait to see what you’re up to next. Family Isn't Always Blood This is shown time and time again. Regina, even with all her flaws, is certainly as much of a mom to Henry as Emma. Granny is always around to help anyone in town who needs a room, or some crossbow defense. Then of course there is Team 7. Our much loved 7 Dwarfs. When Anton/Tiny the giant was brought to Storybrooke and was all alone, they took him in. Tiny lost his whole family in Fairytale Land, but gained a new one when he was brought into the fold of Team 7. ONCE shows once again that it isn’t always blood ties that make a family. And if 7 Dwarfs can adopt a giant into their family, surely anyone and everyone is deserving of love. Family might not look the same. You may not be the same color, size, gender, sexual orientation, or heck, even from the same land! Family is who you love and who loves you. Most importantly: Oncers Hate Breaks! ABC, the powers that be, whom ever is scheduling our beloved show, please take note. Oncers may not agree on their favorite character, the hottest man or evilest villain. We may even see arguing among the separate groups and poll rigging over a simple question of best romance. However, ALL of us will agree that we loathe the long breaks between episodes. The weeks where we know we have another 2 or 3 weeks before we get more of our show. Even worse is when those breaks are frequent. We love our show, we support our show, and we want it with fewer breaks!
Season two has come to a close. We wait, not so patiently, to follow the Jolly Roger into Neverland for Season three. We know that we are not waiting alone. Millions of us around the world, in one big Oncer family, are waiting. We are in different lands and may never meet, but we all share something special from being part of this group. Season two was quite the ride, and I, like the rest of my Oncer family, can’t wait to follow that second star to the right in the fall of this year. By Amy Hood - @Amylia403 While we are all suffering from OUAT withdrawal, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at season 1. I’m sure we can all agree that it was quite a ride from beginning to end, and has brought together a huge online family here at Once Upon A Fan. People from all over the world have become a tight knit community, all brought together by one great show. Here are a few lessons I learned along the way……… Evil is the New Black
Let’s face it, Rumple and Regina are the Rock Stars of Fairytale Land. Who else could rock crocodile skin, leather, and feathers quite like them? They are proof positive that one can be terrified and completely enamored at the same time. Turn a man into a snail and step on him? Kill your own father? Frame Mary Margaret for murder? Yep…and we love them more with each evil deed. And Maleficent? The lady can turn into a fire breathing dragon! The fact that she is Regina’s “only friend” should terrify people all over the world, and yet wouldn’t we all kill for just 5 minutes gossiping with her? |
