After last weekend’s Spooky Empire event in Orlando, we had a chance to ask a few questions to the heads of Spooky, Gina and Petey Mongelli. This was Once Upon a Fan’s second year covering the event which, in addition to lots of other TV, film and media stars, was attended by Ernie Hudson (Poseidon), Brad Dourif (Zoso, the Dark one) and Lana Parrilla (Regina). Here is what they had to say about putting on such a big event, their staff and fans, and what we can expect in the future.

Prolific TV writer and producer Jane Espenson (Husbands, Once Upon a Time, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will receive the 2015 Inspiration Award from Etheria Film Night on June 13 in a ceremony at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California. Espenson was selected as the 2015 honoree for her work in some of the most beloved genre TV series of all time and for inspiring emerging women filmmakers to write and create their own genre projects.
“I’m thrilled to be honored as part of Etheria Film Night,” says Espenson, currently an executive producer on the fantasy series Once Upon a Time. “In the genre spirit of ‘Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations,’ I’m proud to be recognized by a group that encourages all kinds of people to follow their creative passions.” “As a fan of science fiction and fantasy drama TV, whenever I hear of a new show with Jane Espenson’s name attached I’m instantly excited because I KNOW I’m going to love it and I’m not alone in this feeling,” says Festival Director Stacy Hammon. “Jane Espenson’s body of work is so impressive,” adds Heidi Honeycutt, Etheria Film Night Director of Programming. “Once Upon a Time, Caprica, Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica, Warehouse 13, Dollhouse, Buffy… the list goes on and on. She’s an amazing force in genre television.” Espenson will receive the 2015 Inspiration Award onstage during the Etheria Film Night June 13 annual showcase of the best new short genre films (horror, sci-fi, fantasy, action, and thriller) directed by women. The festival’s goal is to prove to the entertainment industry that there are women filmmakers making fantastic genre films, and that they deserve to be recognized. Once Upon A Fan's Zachery Van Norman and Diane Reed will be reporting live from the red carpet so stay tuned for plenty of exclusive photographs and features from the event. The Spooky Report By Three Ghouls - Amy (@Amylia403) Ashley (@MitigatedText) and Mauri (@DarkDearieMauri), Mauri: Another year at Spooky Empire’s May-Hem featuring Halloween Extreme down, I had a blast! On Friday I took advantage of the Brad Dourif and Alex Vincent photo op. Even though Alex is always at Spooky, Brad isn’t, so it was a rare opportunity to get a picture of them together. Then Petey Mongelli, owner of Spooky Empire, had brought his Chucky movie replica doll for the photo, so then you had Alex, Brad, and the Chucky doll photo op. I couldn’t pass that up! I love dolls, and I brought my Mr. Gold/ Rumplestiltskin doll with me because I thought it would make a hilarious picture. Chucky makes a deal with Rumplestiltskin to take over Spooky Empire. The Chucky doll was bigger than I expected. Chucky could have stomped on Rumple. I also got a picture of Rumple with Zoso himself, Brad Dourif. When I met Mr. Dourif he was polite, but reserved. He really didn’t comment much, but when I got my photo op I was first in line and they were still getting set up in the photo room. Brad was standing there and I was maybe a couple of feet from him, and as the girl was putting down a tape line to mark where the line was supposed to stop before you got your picture taken, Mr. Dourif looked down at the tape and commented, “That tape is bright.” And the girl said, “Yes, it’s pink.” Then Brad said, still looking at the tape, “It’s hot.” That’s his humor; dry corny puns. He was so funny. After my photo op I got an autograph from Ernie Hudson. I picked out a picture of him as Poseidon on Once Upon a Time, and had him write the quote from Ghostbusters, the same one that I used for my movie trivia for Once Upon a Time Fans on Facebook. “If someone asks you if you’re a god you say, “YES!” He laughed while he was writing it down. Then I got an autograph from Kathy Najimy, and her handler remembered my purple dress from Enchantacon. After getting my first round of goodies, I spent the rest of the time doing what I like best: taking pictures of everyone in their amazing costumes. I adore all the costumes and there were a lot of great ones this year. My favorites were Seymour and Audrey two because I love Little Shop of Horrors, The Key Master from Ghostbusters, Abraham, from The Walking Dead, and Tucker and Dale from Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil. Ashley: I had a very unique point of view at this year’s Spooky May-hem as I was a volunteer, or to be more specific, a Media Guest Assistant in the American Horror Story: Freakshow room. I was often seen by fans this weekend traveling to and from events with Rose Siggins who played Legless Suzy on the show. Working so closely with the media guests made me appreciate all the hard work that goes into an event such as Spooky. I really enjoyed my amazing time with Rose Siggins and find that I am grateful we were paired together since she is a truly inspiring, no-nonsense woman and mother. Our conversations over the weekend are something I will always remember. Red's Untold Tale explores an earlier chapter in the life of one of our most beloved characters," Once Upon a Time producers said in a statement to THR. "Plagued by nightmares she doesn't understand and a temper she can't control, 16-year-old Red struggles to save Granny's troubled business and to nurture her budding romance with Peter, even as the betrayal of her classmates awakens the wolf within."
Pre-Order Now at Amazon A Reception Fit for a Queen: Regal Con 2015 by Zach Van Norman Two concerts. Four Q&A’s. Four parties. Seven panels. Eleven guests. Hundreds of attendees.
This was Regal Con 2015. A convention created by Roxy Nazari and her team at REN Entertainment, Regal Con 2015 was geared towards ABC’s hit television series Once Upon A Time. And while some of the attending guests have made appearances at other conventions around the country, Regal Con presented a unique opportunity for die-hard Oncers to connect with actors on their favorite show in a more intimate setting. It all began on Friday morning as attendees arrived at registration to collect their ticket packages, though events weren’t scheduled to begin until the afternoon. I was unable to attend the first panel due to interviews with guests, but was offered the hosting spot for the trivia game, which became a combination of in-depth discussion of Once and a knowledge game about the show; winners were rewarded with autograph tickets. It was a blast hosting the game and guiding a conversation about the show. (Special thanks to Roxy for giving me the opportunity.) The trivia contest was followed by a panel reviewing cosplay, which included an incredible Maleficent costume based on the character’s live-action film appearance. Afterwards were photo ops and autograph sessions, which occupied a few hours of the afternoon. By Amy Hood - @Amylia403 It is that time again, Oncers. The abyss, the hour of our discontent, that desperate time that inevitably comes each year for us…..Hiatus time. Each hiatus I take a lighthearted look back at the season to find the gems of wisdom, some serious, some completely goofy, that were imparted to us. Season Four has come to a close and I am ready to share with all of you, these pearls of ONCEY wisdom. SISTERS ARE TROUBLE! Fine, not always, but… Anna and Elsa were very smooshy and loving. But let us not forget, Elsa almost froze Emma to death and created a giant, Marshmallow ice monster. She got herself stuck in an urn, and who put her there? Yup, Anna. Ok, Anna was under the Spell of Shattered Sight, but still, couldn’t she just have stolen Elsa’s favorite sweater or borrowed her lipstick without asking? Auntie Ingrid McSnowQueen had a lot to do with that, but all she wanted was her family who loved her! I mean, sniff sniff, we all cried when Ingrid came to that realization and poofed away into the great beyond. All of us right... right? Not just me? (Cricket chirps…) And the ultimate in pesky, happily ever after ruining sister snow jobs, Zelena came back! Regina just can’t catch a break with this woman! Faking death, pretending to be the sweet as sugar Marion, and THEN…she went and got knocked up by Robin! I don’t condone family violence, but (after the baby is born of course) Regina and Zelena need to just have a good old fashioned sister knock down drag out slap fight. I certainly want to see that, and I love them both! Don’t get me wrong, I am an Evil Regal forever, but I love seeing Regina and Zelena go toe to toe. They are both so smart and devious in their own way. What a fabulous paring. Maybe they can also hash out just whose color black really is, and if Storybrooke is in fact, the Wicked West. Master storytellers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (“Lost,” “Tron: Legacy”, invite everyone to join Emma Swan, Snow White, Prince Charming, the Evil Queen, Hook, Rumplestiltskin and all the other resident fairy tale characters as they cope with Emma’s new role as the Dark One and they begin the search for Merlin.
“Once Upon a Time” stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret, Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, Lana Parrilla as the Evil Queen/Regina, Josh Dallas as Prince Charming/David, Emilie de Ravin as Belle, Colin O’Donoghue as Hook, Jared S. Gilmore as Henry Mills, Michael Socha as Will Scarlet and Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold. Executive producers are Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, Steve Pearlman and David H. Goodman. “Once Upon a Time” is produced by ABC Studios.
