Teresa: When did you first become a fan of Once Upon a Time? Tom: The Season One was good, but I really became a fan when the character of Captain Hook came on. I loved to discover a new story about this character and the interpretation by Colin O’Donoghue is just perfect. I think that he worked a lot to propose a Hook version that we had never seen before. Teresa: When did you realize you looked like Hook? Tom: I didn’t realize I looked like him, but my friends told me that we looked a lot alike. Teresa: How did you first start cosplaying as Hook? Tom: After my friends told me I looked like Hook, I decided to try to do the makeup and did my first photoshoot. It started that way. I put my first picture on your website. Xivents saw it and contacted me for the Fairy Tales 2. All began thanks to you. Teresa: Thank you. We’re honored. How did you make you first costume? What was the process? Tom: It’s not my job. I had never sewn before. I had to learn by myself, but I've always been passionate about all the “Behind the scene” jobs. Winning the “Once Upon a Fan award of the Best Costume 2014” was a good excuse to continue and to improve my skills. Teresa: How many costumes have you made? Tom: I began at FT2 with only one. During the year, I had to create more costumes to make new editing photos and fanarts. At FT3, I have worn five outfits, which represents around thirty pieces of costumes. Teresa: You wanted to meet with Colin and Jennifer. Did you get the chance to do that this weekend? Tom: I had the chance to meet all the cast because we shared the same dressing room. Colin came to meet me on Sunday. He asked to see my costumes and if he could try them on. He was so funny. I think his pirate's wardrobe misses him. Teresa: That is incredible! Did they fit him? Tom: It suited him perfectly. We mostly talked about the costumes and the hook. He told me he was impressed by the costume details because they are the same he wears on set. This scene was just unreal. Colin got excited by wearing my own costumes and we were both sharing advice, with Jenn looking at us. Colin said it could be possible to have a new costume for the next season, so I think I'll have some work for FT4. Teresa: So you met with Jennifer Morrison too? Tom: Yes. On Sunday morning I put on the Ball Costume. I did the pose from the waltz and we danced together. She said with a big smile that I reminded her of somebody who looks very familiar. She's very professional and looks a little bit shy, like me. Teresa: That’s fantastic. We were all rooting for you, following along on your Twitter and Facebook, hoping you would get your moment. Tom: I want to say thank you for you and all your retweets and support during the year. Teresa: It’s our pleasure. We are Once Upon A Fan. We do it for fans. How many times do you think your picture has been taken at conventions? Tom: I have not counted. But it is a lot. If I made people pay for it, I would be rich! Teresa: Is there anything that you would like to share with your fellow fans of OUAT? Tom: Basically that anything can happen, and everybody can live their own fairy tale as I did and am doing! It's such a pleasure to meet them each time, and I want really to thank them for all the kind words and love they gave me. Teresa: Thank you so much for your time, Tom. Tom: Thank you so much for you! You can follow Tom's adventures on Facebook at Captain Hook Look Alike or on Twitter at @TomAbaud Special thanks to @liolette for serving as translator
