Interview by Zach Van Norman - @TheZachVan Zach: Thank you for your time, we really appreciate it. Obviously the season is going to end with a big twist for Robin’s story with Regina and Zelena. When you first got the script about Zelena’s pregnancy and the twist, what were your thoughts?
Sean: This is one of the rare times when I didn’t read it in the script. I actually had a conversation with Adam and Eddy and they explained what we were going to do. This was way back, six months ago or something. They sort of said “we wanted to give you an idea of where we’re going to go because they’re going to be some shocks”. I was like “wow, twitter…. I’m going to have to stay of that for a couple of years after that storyline comes out”. But it’s part of it, a lot of people get upset and angry but I have to remind people it’s a drama. If everyone was just going shopping and then drinking wine, it wouldn’t probably be as much as an engaging show. You have to put the heroes and the characters you love in jeopardy and put obstacles in their way for them to overcome it. It’s worth bearing in mind. I always say, and I think I probably heard it from Adam or Eddy “we’re not done telling the story yet”. Whatever’s happening to whatever character, whether it’s good or bad, it may not stay that way, for better or for the worse. Zach: We’re not quite at Happily Ever After. Sean: Not just yet. And hopefully not for a long time. Zach: When you got Robin’s backstory, did it mesh with your own thoughts? Sean: Not really. I tend to not try and second guess the writers. I was hoping when they told me--the same conversation they told me about the Zelena pregnancy-- that’s when they told me that there was going to be a Robin Hood centric episode. I had no idea what to expect, but I have great faith in them and they are terrific writers. I was really thrilled when I read the episode. I was really excited. There’s one thing in particular I don’t think anyone has noticed yet, at the end of the episode I say to Marian “it’s a charm” which obviously we now know Zelena used and that’s how she faked Marian. But it also explained why I look like Tom Ellis in Season Two. That’s why if you go back and watch it, because obviously Tom played him then and I took over because Tom couldn’t, but that’s the reason they did it. It was just clever little nuances like how he found the bow. There was also a line that was cut because of time I guess where I said, “Be merry men” and I threatened the money when I cut the Sheriff of Nottingham’s trousers off, which probably is now in the deleted scenes that you’ll see in the DVD. Again it was just answering little questions along the way. And it’s a shame we lose those things but we you only get 42 minutes to tell each episode’s story. I just thought it was great. It was really all encompassing. I just love the pace of the episode. It was just nice to have so much time to tell a bit of Robin Hood’s story. Zach: It was nice to see as well. You did a great job with your performance. Sean: Thank you.

Rebecca Mader, Once Upon a Time’s Wicked Witch of the West and LOST alumni, sits down to talk with Zach Van Norman from OnceUponaFans.com
ZACH: I’m Zach Van Norman with Once Upon a Fan. Thank you very much for your time today. I appreciate it. REBECCA: My pleasure. ZACH: Lots of big twists going on with Zelena’s character. Obviously, she’s not quite as dead as some have assumed. Not only is she not dead, but she has been masquerading as Marian for the last several episodes. When you first got the call that they wanted you to come back to the show, and they explained everything to you, what did you think about that? REBECCA: I said “Really?!” I was really shocked. I was driving through Beverly Hills, having a normal day and my phone rang. “Hey, it’s Adam and Eddie for you.” I’m like what? Alright. They got back on the phone and said “hey do you want to come back from the dead?” I’m like “Really? Yeah, alright.” It was a really nice surprise. I love playing this character. ZACH: What did you think of the twist of Zelena not only being alive but then pregnant with Robin’s and Zelena’s child? REBECCA: Oh my God, they told me that. I think I knew that back in September. They are like, this is what we are thinking. This the way we think we’re bringing you back, and then you've been Maid Marian the whole time. I was like, “Oh my God, shut up!” I mean I was driving thinking, the fans are going to go nuts. That’s awful! It’s deliciously awful, you know. So then, on top of it, I didn't find out about the pregnancy. I found out though a crew member actually. I was just like on the set, “Well, you know now that you are pregnant.” I’m like what?! I didn't get the memo, you know, and then I found out. It’s so funny when you are on a TV show, different departments get scripts at different times. So sometimes the costume department and the prop department have gotten the script before the actors. So you hear a conversation, and you go “Wait, what do I do in the next episode?” You don’t even know. It’s crazy. ZACH: Yeah, that’s pretty crazy. You bring a lot of small nuances to your performance that I've noticed especially in the episode Heart of Gold. Where Zelena is confronting Gold in the hospital room, and you are leaning in so close to him. You’re just relishing how it is. Where does that kind of just delicious wicked evilness come from? REBECCA: I don’t know. There must be something wrong with me, ‘cause I had a really normal childhood. My parents are lovely. They’re still together. They’re my best friends today. They hung out with me on Skype when I did hair and makeup this morning. So I’m actually a little bit concerned where it comes from because with that episode, Heart of Gold, was these two gargantuan scenes where I remember when I got the script I was “Oh, good God! Like Zelena, just like there were pages of me not shutting up, you know what I mean. So, I was a little bit concerned, and then when I went to do the rehearsal, the director was “Oh, should we rehearse it?” I was “Well there’s not a lot to rehearse; I’m just going blah blah blah by the side of the bed.” So we went to do the rehearsal, and I started talking, and I said to the crew, “You might want to have a seat, because we’re going to be here for a while.” Because it just went on while the crew was sitting there. I had no idea how I was going to perform it. I just thought somehow I’m going to have to make this interesting. I didn’t prepare it or anything, but once I become Zelena, I just go off on these tangents and I just literally disappear into this character, and the insanity just comes from somewhere. It’s just like I don’t have any control over it. It’s weird, it just takes me over. ZACH: You do a fantastic job with that, I must say. REBECCA: Thank you. ZACH: She’s a completely captivating character. You bring a lot to the performance. REBECCA: Aw, thank you! ZACH: I hate the character right now because of what she has done. REBECCA: Oh no! That’s good though. I’m doing my job. ZACH: Yes, you’re doing it very well. REBECCA: If everyone loved me, then I would be like, hmm. You’ve got to love to hate a villain, haven’t you? ZACH: Yeah. You do have to. You’re right up there, top tier, I’d say, with Regina and Rumple. You’re just digging it. REBECCA: Thank you. Interview by Zach Van Norman - @TheZachVan
Another iconic character on Once Upon A Time has been the horror icon, Dr. Frankenstein. Oncers know his Storybrooke alter ego as Dr. Whale, the surgeon, OBGYN, General Practitioner and all around mega doctor at Storybrooke Hospital. The man behind our Storybrooke McSteamy is well known actor, David Anders. Our Zach Van Norman had an opportunity to sit down with David and talk all things Once Upon a Time, as well as get a bit of info on his new show, iZombie. By Teresa Martin - @Teresa__Martin
Maid Marian returns this week. What can you tell us about her new life in New York and/or flashbacks to the Enchanted Forest? What aspects of Marian are you most excited about fans discovering in this Sunday's episode? I can tell you how excited I am for Sunday's episode... very! I'm looking forward to seeing how the fans react when they get to know a bit more about Robin and Marian's life in the Enchanted Forest. You mentioned on social media that the Winter Finale was special to you. Can you share what particularly moved you about the episode? Knowing that Marian was going to 'step out of the way' for Robin and Regina to be together was big. It was great to come from a very different place than we've seen Marian before and explore why she would make this choice. I enjoyed playing the weight of this decision plus anytime I get to work with Lana is special. By Gareth Hughes - @OUAFBoss You've been acting from an early age. How did that come about?
Every spring and summer breaks for as long as I can remember, my parents sign up my brother and I to different day camps so we can learn and try different things. One of my camps (when I was four years old) was a Superheroes Acting Camp. I loved acting right away and went to as many classes as my parents would let me. One of my teachers recommended that I get an agent and start going to auditions. After about a year of me asking my parents to call an agent, they finally agreed to contact an agency and I have been working ever since. Going all the way back to the pilot of Once Upon A Time, can you tell us how it felt to be involved in such an exciting project? I had been cast in TV pilots before and I knew that most pilots never get picked up, so I tried to not get too excited. I was pretty calm until I got to Once Wardrobe a week before filming where I met Eduardo Castro (Costume Designer) who showed me the most amazing costumes I have ever seen on a movie or TV show! I totally fell in love with my Pinocchio costume and gave up on being calm and could not wait to start shooting the pilot.

Ashley: I’m doing well, how are you? Giancarlo: I’m doing well, thank you. Ashley: Is this your first Walker Stalker? Giancarlo: No, it’s actually my second, I did Atlanta last year. Ashley: Oh, so you’re a vet, you’re a pro. Giancarlo: Eh, somewhat of a pro, one under my belt. But these are huge shows with really, really great fans. It's fun to be here. Ashley: Yeah, no I’m having a ton of fun, I actually managed to catch most of your panel too. Giancarlo: Oh did you? Adam Horowitz & Eddy Kitsis Discuss Season 4 & the Introduction of Frozen Characters to Once Upon a Time
by Diane J Reed & Guest Interviewer Joanna Waddell "We at Once Upon a Fan were so fortunate to get a hold of Adam & Eddy right before the start of Season 4, and they very generously spoke to us about their ideas and dreams for the Frozen characters and the regulars on Once Upon a Time. In addition, it's always been a personal dream of mine to "give back" to the Oncer community by creating an entirely fan-driven interview that features questions for Adam & Eddy from Oncers all over the world. So prior to this interview, Gareth Hughes & I looked over hundreds of questions submitted through Twitter and chose as many as we could reasonably fit into the interview. I also invited a high school student, guest interviewer Joanna Waddell, to participate in asking questions so that a fan could see first hand what this process is like. We hope you enjoy this exciting interview and express our deep gratitude to Adam & Eddy for being so kind and always making time for their fans". ~ Diane J Reed By Amy Hood - @Amylia403
In Season Three, fans of Once Upon a Time were treated to a complete twist on the Peter Pan tale. An iconic part of that story was of course, the Darling family! I had a chance to chat with actress Freya Tingley (Wendy Darling) recently and got to hear her thoughts on acting, TV vs. film, and of course, Once Upon a Time! By Zach Van Norman - @TheZachVan
Lee Arenberg has had a long, colorful career in Hollywood. From Tales from the Crypt to Star Trek, Pirates of the Caribbean to Once Upon A Time, his roles have ran the gauntlet in terms of scope. And while he plays Grumpy on ABC's hit fairy tale show, in actuality he is a funny, easy-going man with a love of his craft and his fans. He shared many interesting insights during our recent conversation, all of which are revealed below in our exclusive interview!

Ashley: Are you surprised at the response fans have had to the character of Zelena?
Rebecca: I was worried. I was nervous. When I first joined the show I talked to Adam and Eddy and they were like “Get ready for hate! Get ready for hate-tweets” and I was like *crying noises* “I’m a really nice person!” I was really nervous that but the outpouring of love was just a real shock and a delight, because I love the show, I love the fans and interacting with them and I’m really into connecting with my fans, being a part of it with them, and enjoying it with them on social media. So it was great that I didn’t have to block a million people to protect my heart. Everybody’s been really kind and supportive. Ashley: A lot of fans really want Zelena back, if she were to come back, what do you think her next step would be? Rebecca: I would definitely want to sees some progression for her in terms of retribution . . . peace. And also, Regina doesn’t have any real family in Storybrooke and I think it would be amazing if the two of them could make up and join forces. Lana brought up at the Fairy Tales convention that we did in Paris that there was this line in that great scene we did together in the jail cell. That as she was leaving, she turned back and looked at me and said, “It’s nice to have family in town.” It was a really cool moment and they cut it out. That made me think that would have been lovely if the two of them could have reconciled and joined forces, because I’ve got an amazing relationship with my sister. She’s my best friend so I would have liked that for them.

Ashley: Very glad to get to meet you and hearing you singing. It looks like you have a lot of fun on set
Beverley: We do. Yea. Ashley: What’s a typical day like for you? Do you prefer doing Fairy tale land or Storybrooke when you film? Beverley: Oh, that’s such a hard question! I like both. What I do love about FTL is I feel Granny is a bit tougher, and less sophisticated, not that she’s uber-sophisticated anyhow, but I just feel more primal in Fairy Tale Land, we’re usually outside, we’re on the hunt, and I use my senses, my wolf senses. My smell and hearing. So I love that. But in Storybrooke, I get to work with more people, other actors. In Fairy Tale Land, it’s mostly the Snow White Crew. I’m with the dwarfs a lot, Snow White and Prince Charming; we mixed with Robin Hood’s group. But both are good. Ashley: What of yourself do you see in Granny or that you put in Granny when you play her? Beverley: Practicality. I think she’s very practical, matter-of-fact, down- to- earth, calls a spade a spade. I come from a farming family in Ontario and we were never without food or anything, but we earned money by manual labor, always blue-collar, so I know that kind of practicality way in the world and I think Granny’s like that too. I call it even kind of Presbyterian where you keep your love and your cards close to your chests. You’re not openly hugging people, although Granny has been like that with Henry. When Henry left, and was found again. When Emma left, and was found again. So I bring that part of myself and my humor. Ashley: I was going to ask about the one-liners. Granny’s known for a few good quips. Do you have any input on that or does it flow naturally with what they write? Beverley: They write it and sometimes I look at it and “really? You want me to say ‘bitch?’ This is Disney! I’m allowed to swear?” I’m kinda of shocked about how far it goes. Not that I don’t swear like that in real life, I have a trucker-mouth, but I’m surprised that Granny is allowed to have that. When I got to be the welder.. That was cool. |
